Litke

Frolov Litke

History

Litke was formed, similarly to Frolov, during the Soviet occupation of the north of the island after World War Two. It was originally designed to majorly exist around maintaining the Gulag built on the shores of Lake Stanart - Soviet officials thought that there would be no better spot to place dissidents in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, as there was nowhere for them to escape to. With the death of Stalin and the ascencion of Khrushchev to the apex of the Soviet Union, however, the town saw a new life as the gulag's occupants were freed - and barred from returning to the USSR. While a number of the former political prisoners decided to leave for America or Western Europe, a lot of them decided to stay, building a town of peace, love, and learning. Litke University was thus born out of the gulag's facilities, operating continously until Andropov and Vetrov's government decided to use the University's medical facilities for the involuntary commitment of political prisoners, and a majority of the faculty quit. The remaining student union groups from the University would go on to fight in the Liberation of Frolov, and after Litke was taken back from US forces, the University resumed normal operation it continues to this day.

Interesting Locations

Litke University

The cluster of buildings on the small penninsula that forms Litke have served many lives. A camp for political prisoners, a University, a mental institution, again for political prisoners, and finally a University once more, but this time unshackled of the oppressions of the societies that built and maintained it. Litke University today offers a plethora of classes, lectures, and workshops on a wide variety of topics, all for free. It's seldom respected by instutions in other countries, but the students and staff of LU have learned to take that in stride - they write and research like nobody else could ever dream of, and the academic community has been on many occasions forced to accept the often-innovative papers and designs that come out of it. In addition, the aesthetic character of the University has changed significantly, with a whole new set of buildings constructed in 2001 in contemporary style, as well as copious foilage and decoration around the campus.

The Grand Kayak Dock

Starting with LU's illustrious rowing team - though they have few to compete against but themselves - Litke has become a major hub for kayaking and canoeing around Stanart Lake, with what locals call the Grand Kayak Dock at the southwest of town. It's not just rowing vessels that take off, though - small passenger yachts are also a common sight, given by the community to those wishing to use them. The lake's calm waters are commonly praised by tourists and locals alike as a relaxing spot to spend an afternoon.

Transportation

Litke is presently lacking in too much transportation infrastructure, mainly owing to that the city is rather compact and walkable. Through this, however, there is regular Ochay Transit bus service to other towns, Highway 23 merges into Highway 2 just out of town, and ferry service between Litke and Mizero is regular - boats depart about twice a day.
